Malfoid & the Mirror of Erised — Two Independent Stories

Compare two independent Female Draco stories using the Mirror of Erised: moonlightbro's linked scene and EnclaveEmily's Selfish. Original reading links and a guide with clearly marked spoilers.

Start with either original story. moonlightbro's scene has an opening post and a linked continuation; Selfish is a separate short story by EnclaveEmily. The two authors use different names and continuities for Female Draco.

Spoilers for both stories follow. Read the originals before continuing if you want to preserve their reveals.

moonlightbro: mistaking affection for a curse

Begin with the original scene in which Draconia asks Snape to investigate her feelings for Potter. The linked continuation follows her unsuccessful counter-curse research, a new suspicion involving the Imperius Curse, and a nighttime pursuit of Harry.

The mirror encounter comes near the end of the continuation. Harry explains what the mirror reveals; Draconia treats the image of herself beside him as ordinary. The exchange gives her earlier denial a romantic irony. The text does not identify the image Harry himself sees.

Selfish: a dance that remains out of reach

EnclaveEmily begins with Dracaena and Harry dancing at the Yule Ball. The later mirror reveal changes how that opening is read: the desired closeness belongs to the reflection, while Dracaena remains outside it.

Her tears and the serpent-and-skull mark on her arm connect that wish to the division she feels in this story. The ending leaves her wanting the reflected moment; it does not make the ballroom scene a shared event in the other author's continuity.

Compare desire, denial and distance

In moonlightbro's scene, the mirror brings a comic investigation of unwanted feelings to an ironic conclusion. In Selfish, the mirror turns an apparent moment of happiness into a study of longing and separation.

Read either story on its own. Their names, circumstances and endings belong to their respective authors; they do not form a shared series or a single account of what happens to Female Draco.
